Happy Thanksgiving from Home Garden Joy! I have so much to be thankful for – and I am especially thankful for YOU, my readers! I’ve seen a surge of subscriptions to the Joy Letter (my monthly newsletter), new faces here at Home Garden Joy, and lots of new friends on Facebook and Pinterest. Thank you so much!

I am thankful for so much in my life – but mostly, I am thankful for being at a place in my life where I am doing what I love for a living, on my own terms. I am thankful that my physical needs for food, clothing, and shelter are abundantly provided for, and I am thankful for 16 years of marriage to my wonderful, steady husband. I am thankful for my brothers and sisters, for my nieces and nephews, and for the many friends far and near who share their love with me every day.  I am thankful for a great church family at St. Theresa Catholic Church, for friends there who share my passion for choral music and prayer, and I am thankful for a beautiful community here in Farmville, Virginia.

So much to be thankful for…enjoy your special day!

OH! And I almost forgot! Yes, we made my husband’s family recipe last night: Italian spinach sausage stuffing. This stuffing is so delicious we’ve been known to make it as a meal, or at least to eat leftovers as a meal.

The recipe is here: Italian Spinach Sausage Recipe.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving from Home Garden Joy!

Growing Strawberry Plants

Growing strawberry plants is one of my favorite gardening adventures. Once they get growing, strawberry plants produce abundant strawberry fruit. Outwit the birds, and you’ve got your own personal fruit supply for several weeks, or you can make a strawberry jam recipe that tastes like a burst of summer. Growing Strawberry Plants To grow healthy…

Recipe Fail – Coconut Bars

Each weekend, I dig out my favorite cookbook – the Fannie Farmer Cookbook, 13th Edition. I flip through the pages, skimming the recipes, checking to see if I have the ingredients to make those that catch my eye. And then, I make the recipe, usually late Sunday afternoon after all the chores are done. It’s…

Propagating Peach Trees from Softwood Cuttings

We decided that propagating peach trees from softwood cuttings was the way to go when we couldn’t find the variety we wanted at the store this past week. The best eating peach we’ve ever grown here at Seven Oaks Farm is “Red Haven.” It was recommended by our neighbor, a man whose family has farmed…
