Jerry, thanks for the insightful comments! I forgot about the reseeding, but if they are like tomatillos, I'll end up with plants for years to come....and yes, the drier the husks, the sweeter the fruit. I appreciate your comment and thanks for reading!

Been growing Ground Cherries for 7 or more years. Great little plant that can really produce. I have found the drier the husks, the more ripe and there for more flavor. The like damp soil but wilt and die with too wet soil. They work great in container growing, whisky barrel planter size works best. Thinking about maybe making wine out of mine.

Might point out that they will re-seed them selves. We have a large garden and we just look for the plants coming up after tilling. We mark them with stakes and just sort of plant around them where possible. Works great for us. I have started transplanting some into containers this year. I got the idea from an older gentlemen from Ohio that sent me my first plants. We had the same hobbies and met at pigeons shows from time to time. That is were we started discussing ground cherries. I mentioned thinking about growing them, and he said he could send me some plants. That conversation started the enjoyable process of growing ground cherries. I have never had purchase seeds or plants again.

Tried the jelly/jam did not set up well, but had great flavor.
