They&#8217;re usually colorful bottles filled with herbs and liquid. Many people give them as gifts and housewarming presents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;ve ever tasted fresh herbal vinegar (and oil), you&#8217;ll know that nothing compares to the taste of homemade. Fresh herbs, apple cider vinegar, and clean glass bottles or jars are all you need to make herbal vinegar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I made oregano vinegar using this recipe. The next batch of herbal vinegar is shown here. I&#8217;ve dubbed it Italian dressing because the herbs flavoring the batch include <a href=\"https:\/\/homegardenjoy.com\/site\/2026\/03\/the-10-easiest-herbs-to-grow.html\" type=\"post\" id=\"18966\">oregano<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/homegardenjoy.com\/site\/2017\/02\/growing-basil-seed.html\">basil<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/homegardenjoy.com\/site\/2020\/05\/growing-thyme-in-the-home-garden.html\" type=\"post\" id=\"10384\">thyme<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"701\" src=\"http:\/\/homegardenjoy.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/herbal-vinegar-1024x701.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6464\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-herbal-vinegar\">How to Make Herbal Vinegar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make fresh herbal vinegar, you&#8217;ll need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A clean glass jar with a lid. The lid should be plastic. If using a metal lid, such as the screw band lid and cap on a canning jar, you&#8217;ll also need a piece of plastic or wax paper to protect the metal. Vinegar will corrode metal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fresh, clean herbs to fill the jar. Pick them from your garden and rinse them to ensure they are clean before using. You will need enough herbs to pack into the jar, so estimate accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apple cider vinegar to fill your jar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cheesecloth or a strainer for the final pass.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Snip the fresh herbs early in the day and rinse them carefully under the tap to ensure that any insects or dirt are removed before using the herbs. Pack fresh herbs loosely into the clean glass jar. Fill the jar with apple cider vinegar. Place the plastic lid or wax paper and the final jar lid on and close the jar. Label and date the jar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place the vinegar and herb mixture in a cool, dark place. It must sit for at least 1 month to fully absorb the herbs&#8217; flavors. Once a day, gently shake or swish the mixture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After 2-4 weeks have has passed, strain the herbs through a cheesecloth or strainer. Reserve the flavored liquid. That&#8217;s your herbal vinegar! Pour into a decorative container, salad bottle, or another clean, glass container with a lid and enjoy. She had sage, rosemary, and a few other types of vinegar already made.
