How to Make a Pair of Gardening Gloves

June 16, 2014 by Jeanne

I go through gardening gloves like they’re disposable gloves. It’s gotten so bad that I only buy them from the dollar store, because I know I’m going to rip out the tips of the index and third finger on the right hand. It’s always those two tips that rip out. I also manage to poke holes in my socks on the same side, right, same toes! I think my right hand and foot may actually be slightly larger than the left, but who knows?

Well, you can’t make these…but you can make something else!

Anyway…because I’m so rough on gardening gloves, when I stumbled across this easy sewing pattern to make your own gardening gloves, I was thrilled. It uses old sweatshirt sleeves to make the gloves. If you don’t have an old sweatshirt, you could simply make the gloves and add elastic. Or even buy sweatshirts at a yard sale! I’ve been to yard sales and thrift shops on clearance days when they advertise “$1 a bag” for all you can stuff into the bag. So why not buy a few old sweatshirts to play with and make a pair of gloves or two?

How to Prepare Raised Beds for Spring Planting

The snow and ice have finally melted. In the mornings when I walk my dog through our farm, I can hear a rooster crowing on a neighboring farm. Cardinals have begun singing in the dawn. It’s spring, folks. And while the calendar reminds me we can still feel winter’s icy breath, spring planting is just…

Swedish Tea Bread

I first made Swedish tea bread for my 50th birthday. Three of my friends have birthdays in the same month and invited me to their family group birthday celebration (they are all relatives). I shaped the bread into braided rings and decorated it with sliced almonds. It was a hit, and I have made it…

How to Start Composting in Winter
