Three Ingredient Slow Cooker Recipes

January 27, 2015 by Jeanne

As I write this, my slow cooker is gently simmering dinner, and I am grateful that on a busy work day the pot roast will be tender and juice by the time I finish working, shut off my computer, walk the dog and feed the cats. My slow cooker is my lifesaver on a busy day. Not only does it make food preparation so much easier, meat comes out tender and moist in the slow cooker.

The blogger over at Totally the Bomb put together a wonderful list of 50 – count ’em, fifty! – slow cooker recipes containing three ingredients or less. I’ve added my own two, below. One of them is in the slow cooker right now, waiting for me to finish preparing the meal in less than 15 minutes as I cook egg noodles, reheat some leftover brown gravy, and heat up a can of pickled beets canned from garden this summer. Bon appetit!

Totally the Bomb’s list of 50 Slow Cooker Meals (3 ingredients or less)

My Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe

Simply put chuck roast or similar cut of beef roast into your slow cooker. Add 1 cup of water, 1 bouillon cube and cook on LOW for 8 or 9 hours.

Rotisserie Style Chicken

Place chicken breasts or bone-in pieces in the slow cooker. Cover the pieces of chicken with lemon-pepper seasoning. Add low sodium chicken broth until chicken is half-covered, about 1 cup. Cook on LOW for 8 to 9 hours.

canning beets 2

Beets I canned last summer. It’s what’s for dinner tonight with the pot roast.

Very yummy. I use my slow cooker on days when we have a big project to work on at home. It’s nice to have supper made when we’re too tired to cook.

Growing Ginger in the Home Garden

Growing ginger is fun. I was surprised to learn that I could grow ginger in Zone 7B, central Virginia. I attended a lecture by Ann Codrington of Nisani Farms several years ago. She discussed growing both ginger and turmeric. Her farm is in Maryland, but I discovered that both plants can be grown in both…

Companion Planting with Herbs: Your Secret Weapon for a Healthier, Happier Garden

Every summer, without fail, I plant basil at the end of the raised beds. These are the beds filled with Roma tomatoes, the ones we harvest by the bushel to make our salt-free organic tomato sauce. My tomatoes thrive. “Did you know that basil repels aphids?” an organic gardener friend mentioned to me casually one…

The Folk Art Weather House

I’ve loved this little folk art weather house all my life. It still makes me smile. What gardener doesn’t need to know the weather? I grew up with many German relatives. Thank-you notes were written to “Oncle Ludwig” and “Tante Marie.” During visits to their homes, I was fascinated by the little folk art German…
