The best ghost stories are ones that offer suspense and an unusual twist on the genre. My favorite horror novel of all time is December by Phil Rickman. It’s out of print, but there are usually copies available on Amazon. It’s brilliant. And that’s all I will say about that….

How did scarecrows become associated with Halloween? Most people think the innocent scarecrow is merely to scare birds away from fields, but by the time Halloween rolls around the corn is long harvested. Scarecrows may have a more sinister origin. Some legends say they hearken back to the days when a man was sacrificed on the eve of the old pagan year to appease the gods.
